Val
grande became a National Park in April 1992. This valley is hidden
in the pre-alps just behind Lake Maggiore around 100 km from the
city of Milan. The
scenery is beautiful woodland and valleys.
In the past woodcutters from other valleys came here. In the
last few decades the vegetation has modified and cancelled many
paths, giving a special attraction to the area. There are several
paths available but careful planning is necessary with in order to
go here. Our highly qualified walking guides know these paths very
well, and will make these outings interesting.
VAL
STRONA
Val
Strona starts in Omegna and rises up to Campello Monti ( m. 1300).
In 1256 the Walser people came here from the Visp and Saas valleys
over the Simplon Pass to settle here.
Between Piana del Forno and Campello there is a stream which
divides the two villages and also the two cultures, the rurual
cuture of the Val Strona and the Walser culture of Rimella and
Campello. There are
many beautiful views,wonderful walks suitable for everyone.
VAL
CANNOBINA
The
Cannobina valley starts in the hamlet of Traffiume with its famous
gorge. Cavaglio and the
other villages with their narrow streets, snake up the valley.
Continuing up the valley we find Gurrone with a beautiful view. On
the other side of the valley we can see Crealla and Falmenta.
One can only reach Crealla by foot.
After Cavaglio is Spoccia and high up is Gurro ( originally a
Scottish settlement )., and well worth a visit. The women still wear
the traditional costumes every day. Finally we reach the end of the
valley and the villages of Cursolo and Finero.
VAL
ANZASCA
Macugnaga,
at the foot of Mount Rosa, is about one hour from Lake Maggiore.
It is called the “Pearl of Rose “. Between the years 1970
and 1990 Macugnaga was very popular with VIPs who helped the village
become famous. In Pestarena, one of the hamlets, there are remains
of antique gold mines, and at Borca there is now a museum which is
very intersting.

FORMAZZA -DEVERO-VALLE ANTIGORIO
The
old name of the valley “Pomatt” was given by the Walser people.
Most of the houses in fact are of
the typical Walser style.
The Formazza valley is considrered to be one of the most
important places for langlauf ski-ing. It also offers the
possibility the walk high up in the alps. The Devero Lake, also
called Codelago, where there is one of the first dams ever built.
Here there are farms, grassy fields and fantastic views of the
surrounding peaks
